Which Herman Miller chair

The Aeron Remastered is the one most people mean when they say they want a Herman Miller. Its 8Z Pellicle mesh and PostureFit SL sacral and lumbar support suit long sitting days in warm rooms, and it comes in three sizes rather than a single adjustable shell. The Embody takes a different approach, with a pixelated support layer designed to distribute pressure and encourage micro movement, and it suits people who find mesh too firm. Which Herman Miller chair should you buy?

Start with how you sit. If you sit for eight hours and run warm, the Aeron Remastered is the answer most of the time: the 8Z Pellicle mesh keeps you cool and the PostureFit SL pads support the sacrum and lumbar separately. It comes in three fixed sizes, so read the Aeron size guide before you order. If you are between sizes or want an adjustable seat depth, the Mirra 2 fits a wider range of bodies in a single size and costs less. If the chair will be shared, the Cosm needs no setup at all, which is why it works in hot-desking offices. That describes the supply route, not the chair: it is the same genuine product, brand new and sealed, sourced outside the authorised Australian channel, which is why an Aeron is $2,150 here against an authorised RRP of $2,785. Because of that route, Herman Miller's own registration does not apply and the cover is our 12-year Chair Dinkum warranty instead, handled in Sydney on 02 9640 0642 across the frame, mechanism, gas lift, base, arms and mesh. Which Aeron size should I choose?

Herman Miller sizes the Aeron by height first: Size A suits roughly 147 to 163 cm, Size B 157 to 183 cm and Size C 178 to 198 cm, with Size B recommended for anyone on a boundary. What is the difference between the Aeron and the Mirra 2?

The Aeron has a firmer mesh, PostureFit SL sacral and lumbar support and three fixed sizes. The Mirra 2 has a softer Butterfly Suspension back, a smoother Harmonic 2 tilt, an adjustable seat depth and comes in one size that fits most people. The Mirra 2 is lighter, cheaper and the better pick if you shift position constantly; the Aeron is the better pick if you want maximum support and a chair you set once.

Which Herman Miller chair is best for hot desking?

The Cosm. Its Auto-Harmonic tilt reads the sitter's weight and responds without a tension dial, so a different person can sit down every day and the chair is already right. That is the specification that matters in shared and activity-based offices.

Who provides the warranty, and what does it cover?

Chair Dinkum does, for 12 years. Because the chairs are parallel imports, Herman Miller's manufacturer warranty and serial registration do not apply; in their place we cover the frame, tilt mechanism, gas lift, base, armrest structure and suspension materials ourselves, assessed here in Sydney. Do the chairs arrive assembled?

Yes. Every Herman Miller chair ships fully assembled in protective packaging from our Sydney warehouse. Open the box, place it at your desk and sit down.
