The four KAB office chairs we sell, side by side: Controller Base, Controller, Director II and Executive

KAB Seating Office Chairs

KAB Seating's Australian office range is built for chairs that are rarely empty: control rooms, dispatch desks, emergency-services call centres and other multi-shift operations. We sell four KAB models, from the armless Controller Base to the wide-seat Executive, and all four are AFRDI 142 certified to 160 kg for multi-shift use. Chair Dinkum is an authorised KAB Seating dealer.

    Choose your KAB chair

Start with how the chair will be used. At a tight console, decide between armrests and none; if operators need to set seat depth and angle, look at the Director II; if the roster includes larger users, the Executive has the wider seat.

    Entry level, no armrests

    KAB Controller Base

KAB's entry-level model: the Controller's heavy-duty mechanism, headrest and inflatable lumbar, with no armrests and a plain black fabric trim. Without arms it rolls under a desk return and turns between screens without catching.

    $1,249.00

    The control-room chair

    KAB Controller

KAB describes the Controller as a genuine 24/7 continuous-use chair, most popular in control rooms and emergency-services call centres: contoured headrest, 30° tilt-adjustable armrests and a breathable leather and cloth trim.

    $2,990.00

    Seat slide and seat tilt

    KAB Director II

Designed by KAB for 24/7 office applications. It adds a 50 mm seat extension and 0, 4 or 8° of seat tilt, so operators of different builds can set seat depth and angle. Black leather as photographed.

    $4,190.00

    Wider seat for larger users

    KAB Executive

A genuine 24/7 continuous-use chair in KAB's words, with a wider seat and wide, flat cushions for larger users, a comfort headrest and tilt-adjustable armrests.

    $3,149.00

    KAB chairs compared

The four models share KAB's heavy-duty mechanism and the same certified load; they differ in armrests, seat adjustment and seat width.

All four share KAB's heavy-duty mechanism: 16° tilt rocker with adjustable tension, 27° backrest recline, an inflatable lumbar and a 100 mm gas riser. Certified loads are from the Furntech-AFRDI Blue Tick Office Chairs List (September 2026); the certificates are valid to 2 December 2027. KAB's own weight rating for these chairs is 200 kg, a manufacturer figure that is separate from the certified load. Each product page has the full specification.

Built for 24/7 and multi-shift use

A chair that is occupied around the clock, by a succession of operators of different sizes, sees far more sit-downs, height changes and recline cycles than a single-shift office chair. KAB describes the Controller and Executive as genuine 24/7 continuous-use chairs and the Director II as designed for 24/7 office applications. The Controller Base is KAB's entry-level model; it shares the Controller's certificate, so it is certified for multi-shift use too.

What AFRDI 142 certification tells you

All four chairs are listed on the Furntech-AFRDI Blue Tick Office Chairs List as certified to AFRDI Standard 142 at a rated load of 160 kg in multiple-shift operation, with AS/NZS 4438 Level 6 (certificates 17670/1 to 17670/3). Independent certification names the chair, the standard, the load and the duty it was tested for, which is why it is the figure we quote.

KAB also publishes its own weight rating of 200 kg for these chairs. That is KAB's manufacturer rating, not the certified load, and the two should not be read as the same thing. Our guide to office chair weight ratings in Australia explains the difference.

    Warranty and support

KAB Seating Australia provides a 5-year warranty on the chair frame and a 2-year manufacturer's warranty on office-chair components. If a claim is needed, call us and we lodge it with KAB. Manufacturer warranties are in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law; our terms are on our warranty page.

    KAB chair questions

Which KAB chair should I choose?

Choose by how the chair is used. The Controller Base has no armrests and suits tight console positions; the Controller adds tilt-adjustable armrests; the Director II adds a 50 mm seat extension and 0, 4 or 8 degrees of seat tilt for operators who need to set seat depth and angle; and the Executive has a wider seat for larger users. All four are certified to the same 160 kg multi-shift load.

Are KAB chairs designed for 24/7 use?

KAB describes the Controller and Executive as genuine 24/7 continuous-use chairs and the Director II as designed for 24/7 office applications. The Controller Base is KAB's entry-level model and shares the Controller's AFRDI certificate for multi-shift use.

    What is AFRDI 142 certification?

AFRDI Standard 142 is the standard these chairs are certified to by Furntech-AFRDI, which lists certified office chairs on its Blue Tick list. The listing names the chair, the rated load and the duty it was tested for. For these four KAB chairs that is 160 kg in multiple-shift operation, with AS/NZS 4438 Level 6, under certificates 17670/1 to 17670/3, valid to 2 December 2027.

What weight are KAB chairs certified for?

160 kg in multiple-shift operation, under AFRDI Standard 142. KAB also publishes its own weight rating of 200 kg for these chairs; that is KAB's manufacturer rating, not the certified load.

What warranty applies to KAB chairs?

KAB Seating Australia provides a 5-year warranty on the chair frame and a 2-year manufacturer's warranty on office-chair components. These are in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
