Delivered Assembled

Your Cosm arrives fully assembled in protective packaging. Open the box, place it at your desk and sit down. No tools, no instructions.

Nothing to Set Up

Auto-Harmonic Tilt sets the recline to your body on its own. Seat height and a tilt limiter are the only controls, so the chair is right for whoever sits in it next.

Auto-Harmonic Tilt

Sit Down. That's It.

Most task chairs ask you to learn them: tension, tilt, depth, lumbar, arms. The Cosm was designed by Studio 7.5 in Berlin to skip that. Its Auto-Harmonic Tilt reads your weight and posture and balances the recline for you, so a 55 kg person and a 110 kg person get the same feeling of support from the same chair without touching a knob.

Lean back and it gives with you and holds; lean in to the desk and it follows. Herman Miller describes it as instant, automatic and balanced, and that is what it feels like from the first minute, which is why it works so well at desks that more than one person uses.

Intercept Suspension

One Continuous Form

The seat and back are one continuous elastomeric form that Herman Miller calls the Intercept suspension. There is no seam or gap where the back meets the seat, so support runs unbroken through the lumbar, the place most chairs leave to a separate pad.

It is breathable and temperature-neutral, and it conforms to whoever is sitting in it. The high-back version carries that support to the shoulders, and the dipped-in-colour finish means the suspension, frame, arms and base are all the one Glacier light blue.

The Details

Five Things That Make It a Cosm in Glacier

Designed by Studio 7.5 in Berlin to be the task chair you do not have to learn. This listing is the high back with Leaf Arms in Glacier: Herman Miller's light-blue dipped-in-colour finish over frame, suspension, arms and five-star base.

01

Auto-Harmonic Tilt

The recline sets its own resistance from your weight and posture, so there is no tension knob to turn. A 55 kg person and a 110 kg person get the same feeling of support from the same chair.

02

Intercept Suspension

The seat and back are one continuous elastomeric form, breathable and temperature-neutral, with no seam or gap where the back meets the seat. Seen from behind it is one clean form, with nothing to snag or adjust.

Leaf Arms

A wide, softly firm cradle for the elbows, angled and tucked back so the arms clear the desk edge rather than hitting it. They are fixed height, in keeping with the rest of the chair.

Dipped in Glacier

Glacier is Herman Miller's light blue, and on the Cosm it is a dipped-in-colour finish: frame, suspension, arms and five-star base all in the one hue, so the chair reads as a single sculptural object rather than a mesh on a black frame.

Two Controls, Nothing Else

Seat height and a tilt limiter are the only adjustments on the chair, so it is right for whoever sits in it next. That is what makes it work at a desk more than one person uses.

High Back, Leaf Arms, Glacier

This Model

This listing is the Cosm high back with Leaf Arms in Glacier: the full-height back, Herman Miller's light-blue dipped-in-colour finish over frame, suspension, arms and five-star base, Auto-Harmonic Tilt, tilt limiter and seat height adjustment. Leaf Arms are fixed-height cradles, angled and tucked back to clear the desk edge.

It is a genuine Herman Miller product, brand new, supplied as an international parallel import. That describes the supply route, not the chair: the cover on it is our own Chair Dinkum warranty (12 months included, with an optional 12-year Extended Warranty), handled in Sydney, rather than Herman Miller's.

Why We Stock It

We stock the Cosm because it is the chair we hand to people who say they do not want to think about their chair. Most of what we sell rewards ten minutes of setting up; the Cosm rewards none, and on a desk that two or three people share that is the whole argument. Seen from behind, the frame and Intercept suspension are one clean form with nothing to snag or adjust.

You can sit in one alongside the Aeron and the Embody at our Pyrmont showroom. If you are deciding between them, call 02 9640 0642 and we will talk it through before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Almost nothing, which is the point. Herman Miller's Auto-Harmonic Tilt reads your weight and posture and sets the recline resistance itself, so there is no tension knob. The two controls you do have are seat height and a tilt limiter for how far back the chair will go. Sit down, set the height so your feet are flat, and the chair does the rest. It suits shared desks and anyone who has never got on with a chair full of levers.

Yes. It is a genuine, brand-new Herman Miller Cosm, supplied as an international parallel import, which describes the supply route rather than the product. Because it is sourced outside Herman Miller's authorised Australian channel, serial registration with Herman Miller is not available and Herman Miller's own warranty does not apply. The cover on it is our own Chair Dinkum warranty (12 months included, with an optional 12-year Extended Warranty), handled here in Sydney; full terms are on our warranty page. Your Australian Consumer Law rights apply regardless of the option you choose.

A 12-month Chair Dinkum warranty is included, covering the whole chair against defects in materials and workmanship. When you buy, you can add the optional 12-year Chair Dinkum Extended Warranty for $200: 12 years on the frame, base, tilt mechanism, gas lift and structural arm components, and 5 years on the mesh or suspension, upholstery, foam, arm pads and castors. Both apply to single-shift use of up to 8 hours a day. For an approved claim we supply the covered replacement part and deliver it to you free of charge. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless of the option you choose. Full terms are on our warranty page.

Seat height runs from 38 to 54 cm, the seat is 52 cm wide and 40 cm deep (the depth is fixed on the Cosm), and Herman Miller rates the chair for users up to 159 kg (350 lb). The high back adds full upper-back support; at 15.9 kg the chair is light for its class. If you are tall, short or unsure, you are welcome to sit in one at our Pyrmont showroom; call 02 9640 0642 first so we have one on the floor.

No, and that is by design. Leaf Arms are a fixed-height cradle for your elbows, angled and tucked back so they slide under most desk edges rather than hitting them. If you need arms that move, Herman Miller also makes the Cosm with height-adjustable arms, but that is a different configuration from this listing; ask us and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth waiting for.

Glacier is Herman Miller's light blue, and on the Cosm it is a dipped-in-colour finish: frame, suspension, arms and base all in the one hue, so the chair reads as a single sculptural object rather than a mesh on a black frame. Herman Miller's other dipped-in-colour hues are Canyon (red) and Nightfall (dark blue); we list the Canyon high back separately. Colour is the only difference; the mechanism, suspension and dimensions are identical.
