    Choosing a Humanscale monitor arm

    Humanscale makes its monitor arms in two families: the M2 for everyday screens and the M8 for heavier, larger screens. The M2 Pro and M8 Pro are the current generation, and the M/Flex system builds two-screen set-ups from one post. Every arm here uses Humanscale's weight-compensating spring, so the screen moves with a light touch and holds its position.     M2 Pro or M8 Pro?

    Start with the weight of your screen without its stand, from the maker's specification sheet. Humanscale rates the M2 Pro for 2.3 to 10 kg and screens up to 43 inches, which covers most office monitors. The M8 Pro is the heavy-duty arm: 4.1 to 22.7 kg and screens up to 65 inches, for large, heavy and ultrawide displays.

    The M2.1 and M8.1 are the earlier generation; Humanscale names the M8 Pro as the successor to the M8.1. Specifications differ between generations, so check which one a specification sheet describes. Our desk compatibility checklist covers the rest.

    Two screens: crossbar or independent arms?

    The M8 Pro Dual hangs two flat screens of up to 5.7 kg each from one arm on a crossbar, and you move both together with the handle, which keeps them aligned. The M/Flex M2 Pro dual with sliders puts each screen on its own M2 Pro arm, rated 1.4 to 5.7 kg per arm for flat screens, and the sliders let you re-space the screens without moving the arms.
