Warranty

Warranty

Every brand we sell warrants its products differently, and the differences are real — some cover ten years, some two, and several attach conditions about hours of use, user weight or who installs the product. This page sets out the actual terms brand by brand, and what your rights are regardless of any of them.

Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law come first

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Nothing on this page, and nothing in any manufacturer's warranty, excludes, restricts or modifies those rights. A manufacturer warranty is something extra you receive on top of them, never a replacement for them. Consumer guarantees also apply to goods costing less than $100,000 whether you buy as a consumer or as a business, so commercial and fit-out clients have the same protection.

Two practical points people often get wrong:

  1. A warranty period is not a deadline on your rights. Consumer guarantees last for whatever period is reasonable given the price, nature and expected life of the product. On a premium task chair that is measured in years.
  2. Faulty goods are not returns. The change-of-mind conditions in our returns policy — the 30-day window, the unopened-packaging rule, the restocking fee, the freight costs — do not apply to a faulty product. On a faulty-goods claim we cover the freight and no restocking fee is charged.

Warranty against defects — the formal statement

This warranty is given by Chair Dinkum, 1/209 Harris Street, Pyrmont NSW 2009, phone 02 9640 0642, email [email protected]. Where Chair Dinkum is the warranty provider, we warrant the goods against defects in materials and workmanship for the period shown for that product below. To claim, contact us at the details above with your proof of purchase and a description of the problem. Chair Dinkum will bear the expense of claiming this warranty, including return freight for approved claims. This warranty is in addition to, and does not limit, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Warranty by brand

HÅG (Flokk) — 10 years
Ten years against production defects, for chairs in normal use up to 9 hours per day. Beyond 9 hours per day the term is 5 years. Fabrics and leather are covered for 5 years. Flokk certifies its chairs for users up to 110 kg unless a specific model states otherwise. Normal wear and tear is excluded. Applies to the Capisco, Capisco Puls, SoFi, Futu, Tion and Tribute ranges.

RH (Flokk) — 10 years
Ten years, normal use up to 9 hours per day, for users up to 150 kg. Applies to the RH Logic and RH Mereo ranges.

Herman Miller — 12 years, provided by Chair Dinkum
Our Herman Miller chairs are genuine and brand new, but they are sourced as international parallel imports rather than through the Australian authorised-retail channel. That means serial-based registration with Herman Miller is not available for them, and Herman Miller's own warranty does not apply.

Instead, Chair Dinkum provides a 12-year warranty directly, covering the frame, tilt mechanism, gas lift cylinder, base, armrest structure and suspension materials, under normal commercial use or 24/7 use. If a covered component fails, you deal with us, not an overseas registration process. We tell you this plainly because some retailers do not.

Humanscale — 15 years
Fifteen years is the rule across the range, including the Freedom, Liberty, M2.1 and M8.1. The exceptions: World One LM is 12 years, M/Connect is 3 years, and textiles and castors are 5 years.

Colebrook Bosson Saunders — 12 years
Twelve years against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, across the Flo and Ollin monitor arm ranges. Unusually long for a product with a spring mechanism.

ZGONIC — 10 years
A limited 10-year manufacturer warranty on the ZG1-DS monitor arm range.

Framery — 5 years, and it varies by component
Framery's warranty is often quoted as a flat five years. It is not. Cover runs:

  1. 5 years on structure and standard parts
  2. 2 years on wear parts: gas lifts, levelling gliders, fabrics, felt, carpet, the door, door seals, hinges and locks
  3. 2 years on electronic components: LED lighting, fans, power and USB chargers, wireless chargers, screens, motion sensors and motor-driven height adjustment
  4. 1 year on Framery Connect sensors

Two conditions decide whether that cover is live at all. The warranty must be activated by completing Framery's installation report form, and the pod must be installed by a Framery-trained installer. If either is missed, Framery is not obliged to remedy defects. Defects must be notified within 21 days of discovery, and software is supplied without warranty.

This is the practical reason to buy pods through an authorised dealer. Chair Dinkum is an authorised Australian Framery dealer; where we handle the installation we complete the installation report and use Framery-trained installers, so your cover is live from handover.

LiberNovo — 5 years frame, 2 years electronics
Five years on the frame and mechanism, two years on electronic components. The Omni SE has no electronic components, so the electronics term does not apply to it. The Maxis carries a 6-year frame warranty.

Kyoto — 5 years
Kyoto is our own brand, so we warrant it ourselves: 5 years on the structural frame, base and gas lift. The Kyoto is ANSI/BIFMA X5.1-2017 approved and weight rated to 140 kg.

BMA (Secur24) — 3 years
Three years. Shorter than most 24/7 chairs, which is worth knowing when comparing control-room seating.

Other brands
For Thinking Works, Offecct, Profim, Forma, Lumi and any brand not listed above, contact us on 02 9640 0642 before ordering and we will confirm the current manufacturer terms in writing. We would rather check than quote you a number we cannot stand behind.

What warranties generally do not cover

Across every brand, the common exclusions are normal wear and tear, fabric pilling, damage from misuse or accident, unauthorised repairs or modifications, use outside the stated hours-per-day or user-weight limits, and damage caused by improper moving or dismantling. None of these exclusions affects your Australian Consumer Law rights where the product was not of acceptable quality to begin with.

How to make a claim

Call 02 9640 0642 or use our contact page. Have your order number ready and describe the problem — photographs help a great deal, particularly for anything structural. We will tell you the next step, arrange collection if the product needs to come back, and keep you informed while the claim is assessed. If you are not happy with how we handle it, tell us; you can also seek assistance from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission or your state or territory fair trading office.
