Designed Around the Human Body
The Aeron was the first office chair designed from the body outward. Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick studied human posture, pressure distribution, and thermal comfort to create a chair that works the way your body does. First released in 1994, remastered in 2016, and still the benchmark that every other ergonomic chair is measured against.
PostureFit SL
Most chairs support your lower back. The Aeron supports your sacrum too. PostureFit SL uses two independent pads that adjust to support both your lumbar spine and the base of your pelvis, keeping your spine in its natural S-curve. This is what separates the Aeron from chairs that simply push a cushion into your lower back.
A pioneering design moves forward
Ergonomic to the core, Aeron was designed for all types of human bodies, thanks to the extensive research of designers Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick. For decades, we’ve been perfecting it so that it’s not only good for your body, but good for our environment too. Aeron’s launch was revolutionary in the office furniture industry – and it continues to lead the charge, thanks to updated research, material innovation and an iconic design that lasts.
Where comfort meets support
The Aeron Chair has been the benchmark for ergonomic seating ever since its debut in 1994. Since then, Herman Miller has learnt a lot about how to best support people – and their postures. What has been incorporated into today’s Aeron Chair are all of the technological and ergonomic enhancements that have been gained along the way: smarter weight distribution through 8Z Pellicle, adjustable PostureFit SL for total spinal support, and balanced recline and natural movement thanks to Harmonic 2 Tilt.
Three Sizes, One Perfect Fit
Herman Miller makes the Aeron in three sizes, A, B and C. The sizes are not just a taller or shorter version of the same chair: the backrest, seat and frame are proportioned differently for each, so choosing the right one matters more than any other option. Graphite is available here in all three sizes, and the other finishes in sizes B and C. The dimensions for each size are listed in the specifications below, and our Aeron size guide walks through how to choose. If you are unsure, contact us and we will help you choose.
This model at a glance
Here the black Onyx chair is paired with a polished aluminium frame, so the metal parts shine against the dark mesh. It carries the same Fully Adjustable Arms and Adjustable PostureFit SL as every Aeron we sell; the polished aluminium is a finish choice only. Prefer an all-black chair? Compare the standard Onyx with its black powder-coated frame. Available in sizes B and C.

Frequently Asked Questions
Herman Miller makes the Aeron in three sizes, A, B and C, and the right one depends on your height and build. Graphite is available in all three sizes; the other finishes are available in sizes B and C. The seat height, seat depth and overall dimensions for each size are listed in the specifications on this page, and our Aeron size guide explains how to compare them. Not sure? Send us your height and weight and we will help you choose.
Yes, this is a 100% genuine Herman Miller Aeron. We source our Aeron chairs as international parallel imports, which means they are not supplied through the standard Australian authorised-retail channel. Because of this, serial-based registration with Herman Miller is not available. Herman Miller's own warranty does not apply; the cover on it is our own Chair Dinkum warranty (12 months included, with an optional 12-year Extended Warranty).
A 12-month Chair Dinkum warranty is included, covering the whole chair against defects in materials and workmanship. When you buy, you can add the optional 12-year Chair Dinkum Extended Warranty for $200: 12 years on the frame, base, tilt mechanism, gas lift and structural arm components, and 5 years on the mesh or suspension, upholstery, foam, arm pads and castors. Both apply to single-shift use of up to 8 hours a day. For an approved claim we supply the covered replacement part and deliver it to you free of charge. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless of the option you choose. Full terms are on our warranty page.
Yes. The Aeron is delivered fully assembled in protective packaging. You simply open the box, remove the packaging, and place it at your desk. No assembly, no tools, no waiting. The chair is ready to use immediately.
We stock six Aeron configurations. Graphite (dark grey) and Mineral (light grey) come with a plastic base. Onyx is black with a black powder-coated frame and base. Mineral is also available with a polished aluminium frame or a satin aluminium frame, and Onyx with a polished aluminium frame. Every configuration we sell has Fully Adjustable Arms and Adjustable PostureFit SL back support, so the ergonomics are identical. The choice comes down to colour, frame finish and the size you need.
The Aeron suits anyone who sits for extended periods and values proper spinal support. It is particularly well suited to people who run warm (the full mesh construction keeps you cool), people who want a chair they can set and forget (the adjustments hold their position for years), and people who want a chair that will last over a decade. It is less suited to people who prefer a heavily cushioned seat or who want to sit cross-legged.
