The Capisco, without the back
The HÅG Capisco 8105 is the backless model in Peter Opsvik’s Capisco range: the same saddle seat as the Capisco 8106, on a stool with no backrest. It is made for working at height, perched at a bench, a drawing table, a lab counter or a raised sit-stand desk, and for people who lean forwards and move about rather than sit back.
Without a backrest it weighs 7.4 kg, against 12.1 kg for the 8106, so it is easy to move between workstations. The gas lift sets the seat height: on the 265 mm lift the seat reaches 790 mm, which suits a sit-stand desk at perching height. Each lift puts the 8105 seat 20 mm lower than the 8106 on the same lift.
If you sit for long stretches and want something to lean against, choose the Capisco 8106, which adds a height-adjustable upholstered backrest and seat depth adjustment. To see all four models side by side, compare the HÅG Capisco range.
Chair Dinkum is the exclusive Australian importer and distributor for Flokk, the group behind HÅG, so the 8105 comes with Flokk’s warranty, handled by us in Sydney.
Perch at a bench, a counter or a sit-stand desk
The 8105 is built for work you do leaning forwards: a lab bench, a drawing table, a workshop counter, an instrument or a raised sit-stand desk. The gas lift sets the seat height, so choose it for the surface you work at.
- 200 mm lift: seat height 440–620 mm
- 265 mm lift: seat height 530–790 mm, for perching at a raised desk
Figures are from Flokk’s 2025 factsheet, measured under Flokk’s stated conditions. When you are perched high, add the HÅG FootRing (for the 200 and 265 mm lifts) or the HÅG StepUp so your feet have somewhere to rest.
Peter Opsvik
Peter Opsvik is the Norwegian designer behind the Capisco, first introduced in 1984. He drew on the posture of a horse rider: a saddle seat opens the angle between your torso and thighs, so you can lean into your work without rounding your back, and keep changing position through the day.
The 8105 is that idea in its simplest form, the Capisco saddle seat on its own. Flokk holds the patent and design protection on it.
A seat that moves with you
The 8105 uses HÅG inBalance®, Flokk’s balanced, flowing tilt function, so the seat follows you as you lean forwards and shift your weight rather than holding you still.
The Capisco is designed for disassembly. Replacement gas lifts, footrings and other HÅG parts are available from Chair Dinkum in Sydney, so a stool that needs a part gets a part, not a replacement.

Key Features
Dimensions: Model 8105
Figures from Flokk’s 2025 HÅG Capisco factsheet. Seat heights follow the measuring conditions Flokk sets out there, so an unloaded chair can measure a little differently. Flokk does not publish a maximum user weight for the HÅG Capisco. The 10-year guarantee covers normal use of up to 9 hours per day for users up to 110 kg; for use beyond 9 hours per day the guarantee period is 5 years.
Frequently Asked Questions
The 8105 has no backrest. It uses the same Capisco saddle seat, weighs 7.4 kg against the 8106’s 12.1 kg, and sits 20 mm lower on each gas lift. The 8106 adds a height-adjustable upholstered backrest, which doubles as a chest support when you sit astride it facing backwards, and seat depth adjustment of 370–470 mm. See the whole range on our HÅG Capisco range page.
The 265 mm lift, which gives the 8105 a seat height of 530–790 mm, a perching height that works at a raised sit-stand desk. The standard 200 mm lift (440–620 mm) suits a conventional 72 to 75 cm desk, in our experience. If in doubt, ring 02 9640 0642 with your desk height.
It depends how you work. With no backrest, the 8105 suits perching, leaning forwards over a bench or desk, and moving on and off the seat through the day. If you want to sit back and be supported for long stretches, the Capisco 8106 is the better choice.
Flokk does not publish a user-weight rating for the Capisco; its warranty applies to users up to 110 kg unless otherwise specified. Flokk’s warranty covers material and manufacturing defects for 10 years on chairs in normal use for up to nine hours a day, or 5 years for chairs used more than nine hours a day; labour, transport and normal wear are not covered. Claims are handled by Chair Dinkum in Sydney. Full terms are on our warranty page.

Parts & accessories for your Capisco
Every Capisco and Capisco Puls uses the same HÅG gas lifts, so you can change your seat height later. Working at a standing desk? Fit the 265 mm Capisco gas lift; our Capisco Puls gas lift guide shows the seat height each one gives. Replacing a worn gas lift? You'll need the HÅG gas lift unblocking tool to remove the old one. On thick carpet, 65 mm Capisco castors roll more easily.
