Which gas lift height do I need?
The gas lift determines your Capisco's seat height range. Choose based on your height and desk type. If you have a sit-stand desk, the 265mm is almost always the better choice.
| Gas Lift | Seat Height Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 150mm | 408 – 540mm | People under 160cm. Fixed-height desks at 68–72cm. Not compatible with footring. |
| 200mm (Standard) | 470 – 655mm | People 160–185cm. Fixed-height desks at 72–75cm. Compatible with footring. |
| 265mm | 530 – 790mm | People over 185cm, or anyone with a sit-stand desk. Lets you perch at standing height. Compatible with footring. |
Tip: If you are between heights or unsure, go with the 200mm. It is the standard gas lift that ships with every new Capisco and covers the widest range of desk setups.
How to replace your gas lift
Replacing the gas lift takes about 5 minutes. You will need the HAG Unblocking Tool to remove the old cylinder from the base. The video below shows the full process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Measure the exposed cylinder (the shiny metal part between the seat mechanism and the base) when the chair is at its lowest setting. The 150mm cylinder measures approximately 15cm, the 200mm measures 20cm, and the 265mm measures 26.5cm. Alternatively, check the sticker on the underside of your seat mechanism, which lists the model and gas lift size.
Yes. The gas lifts are interchangeable across all three heights. If you bought your Capisco with the standard 200mm and later get a sit-stand desk, you can swap to the 265mm to take advantage of the full height range. You will need the Unblocking Tool to remove the old one.
You need the HAG Gas Lift Unblocking Tool to remove the old gas lift from the base. The new gas lift simply drops into place with no tools required for installation. The whole process takes about 5 minutes.
No. The 150mm gas lift does not provide enough clearance for the footring to attach properly. If you want to use a footring, you need either the 200mm or 265mm gas lift.
Chair Dinkum provides a 2-year warranty on all replacement gas lifts covering manufacturing defects. Gas lifts are wear items and their lifespan depends on usage, but a quality gas lift typically lasts 5 to 10 years under normal office use.
No. These gas lifts are specifically designed for the HAG Capisco and Capisco Puls range. They use a proprietary connection that is not compatible with other chair brands. If you need a gas lift for a different HAG model (SOFI, FUTU, H04, H05), contact us as those require different parts.
