One Chair, Two Backs
The Quantum is Buro's adjustable task chair for busy workplaces and home offices. A synchronised seat and back tilt, a ratchet height-adjustable back, adjustable lumbar support and a depth-adjustable seat slide let each user set their own position, and the polyurethane moulded seat has a memory-foam layer to cushion long sittings.
Choose a breathable black mesh back, the same mesh back with Buro's height-adjustable headrest, or a black upholstered back. Buro states the Quantum is endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association, meets ANSI/BIFMA x5.1-2017 and holds GREENGUARD Gold certification.
The Numbers
Buro's figures for the mesh-back chair: 670 mm wide (680 mm across the arms), 640 mm deep and 1110 to 1300 mm high overall; seat height 480 to 600 mm; seat 530 mm wide with a 460 to 510 mm depth range on the slide; back 440 mm wide and 630 to 700 mm high. The upholstered back is 620 to 690 mm high, making that chair 1100 to 1290 mm overall. The optional headrest is 310 mm wide and 165 mm high.
Black nylon five-star base on 60 mm castors. Carton 450 × 650 × 780 mm: 18.1 kg for the mesh chair, 21.3 kg upholstered.
The Details
Five Things That Make It a Quantum
The tilt, the adjustable back, the seat, the headrest option and the certifications.

Synchronised Tilt
Seat and back tilt together on Buro's synchro mechanism, and the seat slides forward and back between 460 and 510 mm of depth.

Back and Lumbar You Can Set
The back height adjusts on a ratchet and the lumbar support is adjustable, so the curve sits where your lower back is.

Memory-Foam Seat
A polyurethane moulded seat with a memory-foam layer, 530 mm wide, in black fabric.

Optional Headrest on Mesh
The mesh back takes Buro's height-adjustable headrest (169-HDREST), 310 mm wide. Buro does not offer it on the upholstered back.

Mesh or Upholstered
A breathable black mesh back, or a black upholstered back for a softer, more traditional look.

This Listing
This listing brings together Buro's two Quantum models. Choose the back: Mesh (Buro codes 169-M3, or 169A-M3 with arms), Mesh with headrest (the same chair supplied with Buro's 169-HDREST height-adjustable headrest), or Upholstered (169-63, or 169A-63 with arms). Then choose with or without arms; Buro describes the arms as height, width and depth adjustable. All versions are black, on a black nylon base.
Comparing? The Buro Axon ergonomic office chair swaps the adjustable back for a flex-back that moves with you, and the Buro Mentor mesh office chair is Buro's mesh chair available with a nylon or polished aluminium base. Why We Chose Buro
Buro Seating was founded in Auckland in 1994 and has been part of ACCO Brands since 1 March 2025. It publishes a specification sheet, line drawings and certification details for its chairs, so the figures on this page are Buro's own rather than ours.
Chair Dinkum is an authorised Buro dealer. You can sit in Buro chairs at our Sydney showroom (Shop 1, 209 Harris Street, Pyrmont NSW 2009, by appointment, Mon–Fri 9am–5pm), and we quote whole floors through our commercial fit-out team on 02 9640 0642.

Buro's specification sheet states the Quantum is AFRDI 142 approved for users up to and including 135 kg in single-shift use. No. Buro offers the height-adjustable headrest (169-HDREST) for the mesh back only, so it appears here as the Mesh with headrest option.
Mesh breathes and suits warm rooms and long days; the upholstered back is softer and more traditional in look. Mechanism, seat, arms and adjustments are the same on both.
The Quantum's back adjusts for height and its lumbar is adjustable. The Buro Axon has a fixed-height flex-back that moves with you and fixed lumbar support. Both have a synchro tilt, a seat slide and a memory-foam seat. The Buro Force mesh office chair is another option with height-adjustable lumbar.
