The Vader carries a 5-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, the term we have listed for Thinking Works arms; Thinking Works does not publish a term on its own site, so if you need it in writing for a tender, call 02 9640 0642 and we will confirm it with Thinking Works. Claims are handled by Chair Dinkum in Sydney. Full terms are on our warranty page.

Thinking Works Vader

Gas Spring You Can Set

A gas spring balances a 1 to 9 kg screen; the built-in tension gauge shows where to set it, so the screen moves with one hand and holds position.

Short Front Arm

Thinking Works' shorter front arm keeps the screen close to the post and lets two screens sit edge to edge on the dual.

5-Year Warranty

Five years against defects in materials and workmanship, with claims handled by Chair Dinkum in Sydney.

Gas-Spring Monitor Arm

Adjust It Sitting Down

The Vader is Thinking Works' gas-spring monitor arm, from an Australian company based in Moorebank, Sydney, built to be adjusted from a seated position: the gas spring counterbalances the screen so it lifts, lowers and swings with one hand and stays where you leave it. Thinking Works' own point of difference is the shorter front arm, which keeps the screen close to the post and, on the dual, lets two screens sit edge to edge without the arms fighting each other.

It takes 17 to 32-inch screens of 1 to 9 kg, flat or curved, on a 75 or 100 mm VESA plate, and both the clamp and the bolt-through mount come in the box.

Tension Gauge, Tilt, Rotation

Set the Spring, Then Forget It

Every Vader has a built-in spring tension gauge: a window on the arm with a scale and a hex adjuster, so instead of guessing you set the spring to the weight of your screen and it holds. Tilt is 45 degrees each way, the VESA plate rotates 90 degrees for portrait, and a rotation limiter stops the screen swinging into a partition or a wall.

The VESA plate detaches: fit it to the back of the monitor on the desk, then hook the monitor onto the arm. Cables run along the arm under a clip, and a USB charging module is available as an add-on.

The Details

Five Things That Make It a Vader

What you are paying for on a Vader against a bargain gas-spring arm: the quick-release VESA plate, the cable clip, the gas spring with its gauge, the short front arm, and two mounts in one box.

01

Quick-Release VESA Plate

The VESA plate comes off the arm. Fit it to the back of the monitor while the monitor is still on the desk, then hook the monitor onto the arm. It takes 75 × 75 or 100 × 100 mm and rotates 90° for portrait.

02

Gas Spring With a Gauge

A window on the arm carries a scale and a hex adjuster, so instead of guessing you set the spring to the weight of your screen, anywhere from 1 to 9 kg, and it holds there.

03

The Short Front Arm

Thinking Works' shorter front arm keeps the screen close to the post and, on the dual, lets two screens sit edge to edge without the arms fighting each other.

Cables Run Along the Arm

Cables run along the arm under a clip rather than hanging behind the desk, and a USB charging module is available as an add-on.

05

Two Mounts in One Box

A desk clamp for tops 10 to 85 mm and a bolt-through mount for 10 to 80 mm are both in the carton, pre-assembled, so a desk with a grommet hole needs nothing extra.

The figures are Thinking Works' own, from the Vader specification sheet and its September 2026 monitor-arm comparison sheet. Thinking Works publishes a comparison across its four arms; the Vader is the one with the widest desk-thickness range and the gas spring, where the C.ME is push-button and flat screens only.

Single or Dual, Black or White, Laptop Tray

This Model

This listing is the Vader in single (VA-MA-1100) or dual (VA-MA-1200) form, in matte white with white trim or satin black with black trim, with or without Thinking Works' add-on laptop tray (VA-MA-1500: steel and silicone, 300 by 280 mm, for 10 to 15.6-inch laptops up to 4.5 kg, with a clamp for thin or thick machines). The single takes one screen; the dual is two arms on one post, each carrying its own screen of 1 to 9 kg.

Thinking Works advises that the height range depends on the number and size of screens; its 285 mm figure is calculated with a 17-inch monitor at the lowest position. Its comparison sheet gives the maximum arm lift as 480 mm for the single and 400 mm for the dual.

Why We Stock It

We stock the Vader because it is an Australian company's arm at a fair price with a gas spring you can actually set, and because Thinking Works publishes proper figures for it. It sits between our Float house-brand arm and the Humanscale M-series: more adjustable than the Float, a fraction of the price of an M2 Pro.

Call 02 9640 0642 with your screen sizes and weights and we will tell you whether the single, the dual or a C.ME suits, or come and try one at our Pyrmont showroom, 1/209 Harris Street.

All figures are Thinking Works' own, from the Vader technical specification sheet (14 September 2020 edition, current on thinkingw.com) and its monitor-arm comparison sheet dated 14 September 2026. Our previous listing advised flat screens only; Thinking Works' current sheets rate the Vader for flat or curved screens within the 1–9 kg range. The warranty term is the one we have listed for Thinking Works arms; Thinking Works publishes no term on its own site, so ask us for written confirmation if a tender requires it. Warranty terms are on our warranty page.

Frequently Asked Questions

If the screen is 17 to 32 inches, weighs 1 to 9 kg without its stand, and has 75 or 100 mm VESA holes in the centre of the back, yes. Check the weight on the maker's specification sheet: under 1 kg the spring will lift it too easily; over 9 kg it will sag. Curved screens are within Thinking Works' current rating; our earlier listing advised against them, so if yours is curved and heavy, call 02 9640 0642 first.

The single is one arm on one post for one screen. The dual is two independent arms on one post, each rated for 1 to 9 kg, so you can angle each screen separately or pair different sizes. Thinking Works gives the dual a lower maximum lift (400 mm against 480 mm), which matters only if you want a screen unusually high.

A gas spring has to be set to the weight of the screen it carries. The Vader has a gauge window on the arm: turn the hex adjuster until the marker sits at the right point for your screen's weight and the arm balances it. Screen too high or too low after that, and it is a quarter-turn to fix.

The clamp takes a desk top 10 to 85 mm thick with a clear edge; the bolt-through mount, for a desk with a grommet hole or no rear overhang, takes 10 to 80 mm. Both are in the box. A desk with a modesty panel hard against the rear edge needs the bolt-through.

If a laptop is your second screen, yes: the VA-MA-1500 tray hangs a 10 to 15.6-inch laptop of up to 4.5 kg on one arm of a dual at monitor height, with a clamp for thin and thick machines, and the arm still moves. It is Thinking Works' own tray, made for the Vader's VESA plate.

Five years against defects in materials and workmanship, the term we have listed for Thinking Works arms. A claim comes to Chair Dinkum in Sydney on 02 9640 0642. Full terms are on our warranty page, and your Australian Consumer Law rights apply in addition.
