Most task chairs ask you to learn them: tension, tilt, depth, lumbar, arms. The Cosm was designed by Studio 7.5 in Berlin to skip that. Its Auto-Harmonic Tilt reads your weight and posture and balances the recline for you, so a 55 kg person and a 110 kg person get the same feeling of support from the same chair without touching a knob.

Lean back and it gives with you and holds; lean in to the desk and it follows. Herman Miller describes it as instant, automatic and balanced, and that is what it feels like from the first minute, which is why it works so well at desks that more than one person uses.

Intercept Suspension

One Continuous Form

The seat and back are one continuous elastomeric form that Herman Miller calls the Intercept suspension. There is no seam or gap where the back meets the seat, so support runs unbroken through the lumbar, the place most chairs leave to a separate pad.

It is breathable and temperature-neutral, and it conforms to whoever is sitting in it. The high-back version carries that support to the shoulders, and the dipped-in-colour finish means the suspension, frame, arms and base are all the one Glacier light blue.

It suits shared desks and anyone who has never got on with a chair full of levers.

Chair Dinkum provides a 12-year warranty on all Cosm chairs we sell. This covers the frame, tilt mechanism, gas lift cylinder, base, armrest structure, and Intercept suspension under normal commercial use (8 hours per day, 5 days per week). If any covered component fails within the warranty period, contact us directly and we will resolve it.

Seat height runs from 38 to 54 cm, the seat is 52 cm wide and 40 cm deep (the depth is fixed on the Cosm), and Herman Miller rates the chair for users up to 159 kg (350 lb). The high back adds full upper-back support; at 15.9 kg the chair is light for its class. If you are tall, short or unsure, you are welcome to sit in one at our Pyrmont showroom; call 02 9640 0642 first so we have one on the floor.

No, and that is by design. Leaf Arms are a fixed-height cradle for your elbows, angled and tucked back so they slide under most desk edges rather than hitting them. If you need arms that move, Herman Miller also makes the Cosm with height-adjustable arms, but that is a different configuration from this listing; ask us and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth waiting for.
