Who Is the Capisco Actually For?
Peter Opsvik designed the Capisco in 1984 around the way a rider sits on a horse — hips high, spine upright, weight taken through the thighs.
The Capisco is not a traditional ergonomic chair. If you want to lean back into deep lumbar support and sit motionless for eight hours a day, you should look at a Herman Miller Aeron or a HÅG Tion instead.

There are two main families in the Capisco range: the classic Capisco (the 8105, 8106, 8107, 8126 and 8127 model codes) and the Capisco Puls (8001, 8002, 8010 and 8020). They are separate products with separate specifications, not trim levels of one chair.
The Capisco 8106 is the original 1984 design by Peter Opsvik. It features full upholstery over thick, contoured foam. It is the most comfortable option for longer sitting sessions and offers the premium, tactile feel of high-grade fabric or leather. The 8105 is the backless saddle stool version of the same chair.
The Capisco Puls is a modern, streamlined version. Instead of full upholstery, the Puls uses a moulded polyurethane shell. It is firmer, lighter, and easier to wipe clean, making it ideal for high-traffic or clinical environments. The Puls comes in two variations:

Choosing the Right Gas Lift Height
The perch position is what the 200 mm and 265 mm cylinders exist for; a 150 mm lift cannot reach it.
This is the most critical decision when buying a Capisco. Because the chair is designed for higher-than-average sitting, standard gas lifts often do not provide enough height for the signature "perch" position.
The figures below are Flokk's published seat heights for the Capisco 8106, 8107, 8126 and 8127. The backless 8105 sits 10mm lower at every setting, and the Capisco Puls is a different chair with its own ranges, so check the specification for the exact model you are ordering.
You must match the gas lift to your desk type, not just your body height:
150mm Gas Lift (Seat height: 400mm to 540mm)
Choose this if you are using a standard, fixed-height desk (around 720mm high). This lift operates like a normal office chair. However, using a 150mm lift means you miss out on the Capisco's unique high-perching capability, and the FootRing accessory does not fit this lift.
200mm Gas Lift (Seat height: 460mm to 640mm)
This is the most popular choice. It requires a height-adjustable sit-stand desk. It allows you to sit at a standard height, but also extends high enough to support a semi-standing perch. If your desk can raise to at least 900mm, this is the recommended lift.
265mm Gas Lift (Seat height: 550mm to 810mm)
Choose this only if you work at a high drafting table, a laboratory bench, or a standing desk that you rarely lower. The lowest setting on this lift (550mm) is too high for a standard sitting desk, meaning your knees will hit the underside of the table.
Foot Support: FootRing and StepUp
The FootRing bolts to the cylinder, which is why the cylinder decision has to be made before the foot support one.
Once you perch above standard desk height, your feet need somewhere to go. The HÅG Capisco FootRing fits the 200mm and 265mm gas lifts only. It cannot be fitted to a 150mm lift, so if you order the standard lift for a fixed-height desk, plan on using the grooved footplates on the chair base instead. The FootRing adds one extra foot level; the HÅG StepUp adds two.
A Note on Sustainability
The Capisco is also one of the better documented chairs environmentally, which matters if your purchase needs to satisfy a green procurement policy. Flokk publishes figures per model rather than making general claims: the current Capisco is built from 50% recycled materials, and the 8106 carries a published carbon footprint of 32.87 kg CO₂e. The chair is certified to EN 1335 (2020) Type A and Ax, ANSI/BIFMA, EN 16139 and GS. Warranty
HÅG covers the Capisco for 10 years where the chair is used up to 9 hours a day, and 5 years where it is used beyond 9 hours a day. Fabrics and leather are covered for 5 years.

Does the Capisco have armrests?
No, and it does not need them. The cross-shape of the backrest is designed to support your arms. When you sit normally, you can rest your elbows on the "wings." When you sit backwards, the backrest supports your chest while your arms rest on the wings.
What is the maximum user weight?
Flokk does not publish a maximum user weight for the Capisco. The 110kg figure that circulates online is a condition of the warranty, not a structural limit. If load rating matters for your procurement, ask us and we will put the question to Flokk in writing.
Is the saddle seat uncomfortable?
It requires an adjustment period. For the first few days, the saddle shape will engage core and leg muscles you are not used to using while sitting. Most users report that after a week, the posture feels entirely natural and relieves lower back tension.
Can I use it on carpet?
Yes, but you must specify the correct castors. Hard castors are for soft floors (carpet), while soft castors are for hard floors (timber, concrete, tile). Using the wrong castors will either damage your floor or make the chair too slippery.
