A Padded Seat on a Self-Adjusting Chair
The World One LM was designed by Niels Diffrient around one idea: the best ergonomic chair is one you never have to adjust. This version keeps everything that makes it work, the weight-sensitive recline and the tri-panel mesh back, and swaps the mesh seat for a sculpted foam seat upholstered in black Corde 4.
It is the version to choose if you simply prefer sitting on foam, or if the chair is going into a boardroom, reception area or home study where an upholstered finish suits the room better than mesh.
The Chair That Adjusts to You
There is no recline lever and no tension dial. The World One LM reads your body weight the moment you sit and calibrates its recline resistance to match. Lean back and it gives exactly the support your size needs, then returns you upright without a fight.
That is why it works so well on shared desks: every person who sits in it gets a chair set up for them, without touching a single control.
Mesh Where You Lean, Foam Where You Sit
The backrest is the same tri-panel Form Sensing Mesh as the all-mesh World One LM. Three non-stretch panels take on the shape of your back and provide lumbar support that follows your spine as you move, with no separate lumbar pad to position.
Below it, the upholstered seat gives you a padded surface that many people find more comfortable over a long day, without giving up the airflow at your back that mesh is prized for.
With Arms, or Without
Choose height-adjustable Duron arms, which attach to the backrest so they move with you as you recline, or the armless version for a cleaner profile that tucks fully under a desk.
Either way the chair ships with a 125 mm gas cylinder and hard castors, which are the right castors for carpet. If your floor is timber, tile or vinyl, call us on 02 9640 0642 before ordering and we will arrange soft castors.

Frequently Asked Questions
They are the same chair with a different seat. Both have the tri-panel mesh backrest and Humanscale's weight-sensitive recline. This version replaces the mesh seat with a sculpted foam seat upholstered in Corde 4 textile. Choose it if you prefer a padded seat, or for boardrooms and reception areas where an upholstered finish suits the room. Choose the all-mesh version if you run warm and want airflow under you as well as behind you.
It is available both ways. Choose Adjustable Duron arms for height-adjustable arms that attach to the backrest and move with you as you recline, or Armless for a cleaner profile that tucks fully under a desk. Select the option above the Add to Cart button.
This configuration ships with hard castors, which are the right choice for carpet. If your floor is timber, tile, polished concrete or vinyl, call us on 02 9640 0642 before you order and we will arrange soft castors so the chair rolls properly and does not mark the floor.
The World One LM reads your body weight when you sit and calibrates the recline resistance to it. There is no tension dial and no recline lever: lean back and the chair gives you the right amount of support for your size. It suits shared desks and hot-desking for exactly this reason, because every person who sits in it gets a chair set up for them.
Humanscale covers the World LM with a 12-year warranty on parts and components, and a 5-year warranty on arm pads and textiles. This is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which are not limited by it. If anything fails, contact Chair Dinkum directly on 02 9640 0642 and we will handle it.
