What the Tion is made of
The headline figure is the plastic. The moulded seat and back shells — the largest plastic components on the chair, and on the 2100 the parts you actually sit on and look at — are 94% post-consumer recycled plastic.
Post-consumer is the meaningful word. It means material that has been through a product, been used, and been collected back, rather than factory offcuts that never reached anybody. It is the harder feedstock to work with and the more valuable one to divert, and it is what Flokk specifies for these parts.

The lowest carbon footprint in the HÅG range
Flokk publishes a carbon footprint of 17–27 kg CO2e for the Tion 2100 without armrests, on a total product weight of 11 kg. That is the lowest figure of any HÅG task chair, and Flokk describes the Tion as its most carbon-efficient task chair to date.
Set against the rest of the HÅG range we stock, the gap is substantial:

The reason is straightforward. The Tion is a light chair built with as few components as possible, and the bulk of it is recycled feedstock rather than virgin metal. Less material, less processing, a smaller number at the end of it.
Built to come apart, and to be kept going
Recycled content is only half of a circular product. The other half is what happens to the chair over the next decade, and this is where the Tion's design really shows.
Flokk designed it for easy disassembly and refurbishment without using any special tools, and built it from as few components as possible. In practice that means a facilities team can strip a Tion down with what is already in the workshop drawer — no proprietary tool, no service call — so the plastic and the aluminium can go to separate streams instead of the whole chair going to landfill. Fewer components also means fewer mixed-material joints to separate in the first place.
Long before that, it means the chair stays in service. Flokk guarantees delivery of spare parts for a minimum of ten years from the chair's production date, covering the parts needed to maintain its original functionality, and backs the chair with a ten-year guarantee for normal use of up to nine hours a day. A chair that lasts fifteen years and gets recycled at the end of it is a better environmental outcome than a chair with an impressive material sheet that gets replaced in five.
The certifications
The Tion carries the documentation that procurement and green building submissions usually ask for:
- Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) — a third-party verified life cycle analysis to ISO 14025. We can send this on request.
- GREENGUARD GOLD — certified low chemical emissions, which matters for indoor air quality in sealed commercial buildings.
- Nordic Swan Ecolabel and EU Ecolabel — two of the more demanding multi-criteria environmental labels in Europe.
- Möbelfakta — the Swedish furniture standard covering quality, environment and social responsibility.
- EN 1335-1 (2020) Type B — the European office chair standard.
Flokk calls the Tion the most sustainable task chair design in the world. The certifications above are the paperwork behind that, and they are the part a specifier can actually attach to a submission.
It is a very good chair before you get to any of that
None of the above would matter if it were an uncomfortable chair, and it is not. The Tion uses HÅG's inBalance movement, which keeps the seat responsive as you shift rather than holding you in one fixed position — the same principle that runs through the whole HÅG range and the reason these chairs suit people who cannot sit still.
Seat height runs 41–54 cm on the 150 mm gas lift and 48–66 cm on the 200 mm, so it covers everything from a low desk to a high bench. It is light enough to move around a flexible floor plate without thinking about it, and it comes in a genuinely good range of colours rather than the usual three greys.
If your specification calls for an adjustable seat depth, the chair to look at in the HÅG range is the HÅG SoFi Mesh, which Flokk publishes at 38–46 cm and certifies to EN 1335 Class A. It starts at $750 without arms and $950 with the SlideBack armrests, and our SoFi review has the detail. There is a happy accident in that table worth pointing out. The 2100 is both the greenest Tion and the cheapest. It is the model Flokk's carbon figure describes, its recycled shells are the finished surface rather than something hidden under upholstery, and it is the entry price into the range. Specifying sustainably does not cost you extra here — it saves you money.
