The SoundBox VRT SM Office Pod is an office pod for 1 person, from SoundBox's VRT series: tested to ISO 23351-1 at Class A speech privacy with a measured D(S,A) of 30.2 dB, fresh air from a Panasonic-developed fan, app and NFC control, and a choice of a glass or solid back in five colours. Made to order with an 8-week lead time.

Why the SoundBox VRT SM

Class A Speech Privacy

Tested by SoundBox to ISO 23351-1: D(S,A) 30.2 dB, Class A, and NIC 31 under ASTM E596-22.

Fresh Air, Quietly

A Panasonic-developed fan draws air in at the top and out at the bottom, at under 40 dB.

Smart Control

App, QR code and NFC control, presence sensing, an occupancy light and remote booking.

SoundBox VRT SM

An Office Pod With a Lounge Seat

The VRT SM gives 1 person a closed, ventilated room that can stand anywhere on an office floor. SoundBox builds it for video calls, focused work and a short break in a lounge chair.

Inside: lounge armchair and small worktop, downlight and light strip, smart control panel, castors. The interior measures 990 × 925 × 1960 mm (W × D × H) on a 1.1 m² footprint.

Acoustics

Class A Speech Privacy, Measured

SoundBox tests the VRT SM to ISO 23351-1, the standard for speech level reduction in pods, and reports Class A with a measured D(S,A) of 30.2 dB. It also quotes NIC 31 under ASTM E596-22 and a reverberation time of about 0.06 s in the 500–2000 Hz speech range.

The walls are 40 mm carbon-plastic composite panels with a rear acoustic cavity; the glazing is 6.8 mm laminated acoustic glass, which SoundBox says adds 3–5 dB of sound reduction over standard glass. Class A is the second of five bands (A+, A, B, C, D) under ISO 23351-1.

Air, Light and Control

Fresh Air and a Pod That Knows It Is in Use

Air enters at the top and leaves at the bottom through a labyrinth duct, driven by a low-speed, high-pressure fan SoundBox developed with Panasonic; SoundBox quotes ventilation noise under 40 dB and adjusts airflow to presence and temperature. Lighting runs from 300 to 700 lux and 2800 to 6500 K, with a rotating downlight and light strip.

A smart control panel by the door carries the display, the lighting and fan controls, and the power and USB ports, so the pod plugs into a standard outlet and powers a laptop and phone without extra cabling.

Booking and Access

Book It, Find It, Open It

Each VRT can be booked ahead from the SoundBox app or by scanning its QR code, and opened with a phone at the NFC reader, so a floor of pods can be shared without a paper roster. A mmWave sensor detects when someone is inside, and the occupancy light on the frame shows colleagues at a glance whether the pod is free.

The same system reports faults remotely, so a facilities team hears about a fan or light problem before the next user does. Remote reservation and touchless entry are standard on every VRT size.

Site Planning & Approvals

Plan the Approval Before the Delivery

A pod is not automatically outside the approval process. In New South Wales, Building Commission NSW practice advice of 24 January 2025 treats an office pod as a room rather than furniture, so installing one is building work, which brings in certification, fire services, egress and accessibility. A supplier's compliance letter, ours included, does not bind your certifier, so raise the pod with them before you order.

Then the practical checks: an exterior of 1100 × 1040 × 2100 mm (W × D × H), 2170 mm of ceiling height to stand the pod up, and 245 kg on the floor. The VRT plugs into a standard outlet, with an Australian plug offered by SoundBox, and SoundBox says it assembles on site in about an hour with two to three people. We confirm access, lift and floor details with you before delivery is booked.

Why We Stock the SoundBox VRT

We stock the VRT series because it puts measured numbers on the page: Class A speech privacy to ISO 23351-1 on every size, from the one-person S to the six-person L, with the test result published per model. It adds fresh air from a Panasonic-developed fan, app and NFC control, and five sizes on the same design, so a floor of phone booths and meeting pods can match.

Every VRT is made to order with an 8-week lead time. SoundBox's published warranty is one year on the structure and core components, glass excluded, and claims are handled by Chair Dinkum in Sydney on 02 9640 0642. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law for faulty or damaged goods are separate and are not limited by it.

Frequently Asked Questions

SoundBox tests the VRT SM to ISO 23351-1 and reports Class A speech privacy with a measured D(S,A) of 30.2 dB. That is the second-highest of the standard's five bands (A+, A, B, C, D). It also quotes NIC 31 under ASTM E596-22, a different measure that is not directly comparable with D(S,A).

The VRT SM is built for video calls, focused work and a short break in a lounge chair. If you need a full desk and task chair, see the SoundBox VRT M. Check the exterior of 1100 × 1040 × 2100 mm against your floor plan and allow 2170 mm of ceiling height. The glass back (VRT) keeps the pod light and see-through; the solid back (VRT+) closes the rear wall with fluted panelling inside, for more visual privacy against a wall.

Yes. SoundBox fits the VRT with casters for easy movement, so it can be rolled to a new position on the same floor. For a move between floors or buildings, call us on 02 9640 0642 and we will quote dismantling, transport and reassembly for your site.

Each VRT is made to order with an 8-week lead time from order confirmation. SoundBox says the pod assembles in about an hour with two to three people and a toolkit that comes with it, rolls on castors and plugs into a standard outlet, with an Australian plug available. We quote delivery and installation for your site; call 02 9640 0642.

Do not assume it doesn't. In New South Wales, Building Commission NSW practice advice of 24 January 2025 treats an office pod as a room rather than furniture, so installing one is building work: certification, fire services, egress and accessibility all come into play. No other state has published an equivalent position. A supplier's compliance letter, including ours, does not bind your certifier, so check with your building manager or certifier before you order, and have the pod tested with the door shut against the building's occupant warning system.

SoundBox's published warranty is one year on the structure and core components, glass excluded. Claims are handled by Chair Dinkum in Sydney on 02 9640 0642; full terms are on our warranty page. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law for faulty or damaged goods are separate and are not limited by it.
