Most ergonomic chairs make you pick one lumbar setting and then hold a posture around it. The Omni's backrest is built from eight flexible panels on sixteen spherical pivots, so it reshapes as you twist, lean and settle instead of holding you against a fixed contour. The headrest, seat and armrests are linked into the same motion, so reclining doesn't open a gap behind your lower back.
On this model a button on the armrest also drives the lumbar pad forward through 50mm of travel, including a five-minute OmniStretch traction cycle. To be precise: the lumbar is controlled by you rather than by sensors, and it adjusts in depth rather than height.
The footrest is an optional accessory for the LiberNovo Omni. It attaches to the base of the chair and supports your legs when the chair is in full recline position. If you plan to use the chair for extended rest periods or have circulation issues, the footrest is a worthwhile addition.
Many people with lower back issues get on well with the Omni, because the backrest keeps making contact as you move and the OmniStretch cycle gives the lower back a slow traction stretch at the end of a long sitting day. That said, we are chair retailers rather than clinicians, and for a chronic condition we would always recommend speaking to a physiotherapist or ergonomist about what your back actually needs. The Omni is rated to a maximum load of 136kg (300 lbs) under the BIFMA X5.1 standard, and suits users from roughly 153cm to 186cm. Above 136kg or 186cm, the big-and-tall LiberNovo Maxis is the correct chair rather than the Omni.
The spec that catches most people out is seat depth: the Omni comes in 450mm or 480mm and it is fixed at purchase, with no slider and no swapping later. If you have long legs for your height, call us on 02 9640 0642 before you order.
OmniStretch uses a small motorised actuator to push the lumbar pad forward through 50mm of travel, giving your lower back a slow traction stretch rather than a kneading massage. A cycle runs about five minutes and works best in deep recline.
It runs off a removable 2,200mAh 12V battery, which LiberNovo rates at around 30 days on one stretch per day and closer to a year on occasional use. Recharging takes about three and a half hours over USB-C, and every other function on the chair — recline, tilt, seat height, armrests and the dynamic backrest — keeps working normally while the battery is flat. Two things worth knowing: there is no battery level indicator, and there is no USB-C cable in the box.
The Aeron and the Leap hold you in a good posture. The Omni moves with you and then stretches your back out. Its eight-panel backrest articulates as you shift, and the powered lumbar adds a five-minute traction cycle that nothing Herman Miller or Steelcase makes will do — for several hundred dollars less than a comparable Aeron in Australia.
What you give up is track record and cover. The Aeron has been in production since 1994 with a 12-year warranty and a mature parts and service network; the Omni has been in owners' hands since late 2025 with two years on its electronics. The Aeron also comes in three frame sizes, so it fits a wider range of bodies. If you want certainty, buy the Aeron. If you want a chair that works on your back while you use it, buy the Omni. The Omni is certified to BIFMA X5.1, the American furniture durability standard, tested across more than 100,000 cycles. It also holds UL962 for electrical safety, FCC for electromagnetic compliance and RoHS for restricted substances, and the lithium battery is certified to UN38.3 for transport.
