The Arm That Stays Put
The M2.1 is Humanscale's everyday monitor arm and the one we sell most of. Inside the arm is a mechanical spring, not a gas cylinder: it counterbalances the weight of your screen so the monitor rises, drops and swings with one finger and then stays exactly where you left it. Nothing creeps down over an afternoon, and there is no tension knob on the outside to be knocked out of adjustment.
Humanscale rates it for a single screen and publishes an overall height range of 7.6 to 17.5 inches, 360 degrees of arm rotation with an integrated stopper that can limit it to 90 or 180 degrees, 180 degrees of screen pan, and tilt of 80 degrees up and 15 degrees down. Where the Weight Goes
The counterbalance lives in the forearm. A coil spring works against the load so the force you apply is the same at the top of the travel as at the bottom — that is what makes a good arm feel weightless rather than springy. Because it is a spring and not a sealed gas cartridge, there is no seal to fail and no gradual loss of lift.
You set it once for the screen you own, using the adjustment inside the arm, and leave it. If you change screens later, you reset it in a minute.

Spring Counterbalance, Not Gas
A coil spring in the forearm works against the load, so the force you apply is the same at the top of the travel as at the bottom. There is no sealed gas cartridge to lose pressure and no tension knob on the outside.

Quick-Release VESA Head
Bolt the plate to the monitor once and the screen lifts on and off the arm without tools. It is the difference between a five-minute screen swap and a twenty-minute one.

360° Rotation With a Stopper
The arm rotates a full 360° on the post, and an integrated stopper can limit that to 90° or 180°. Screen pan is 180°; tilt is 80° up and 15° down.

Cables Inside the Arm
Cables run inside the arm from the head to the post, so the only thing visible at the back of the desk is the loom going down.

Clamp Supplied, Grommet to Order
The clamp mount is in the box; a grommet fitting is available to order if the desk has a cable port rather than a usable edge. One hex key, no drilling, about ten minutes.

This Listing
Two finishes: black with black trim (M21BTBC) and polished aluminium with white trim (M21BTWCIND). Both are the clamp-mount single arm; a grommet fitting is available to order if the desk has a cable port rather than a usable edge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Check three things: the screen's weight in kilograms (the number that matters most), its VESA hole pattern on the back, and your desk's thickness where the clamp goes. The weight range is in the specifications above; almost every office monitor is VESA 75 × 75 or 100 × 100. Humanscale's specification table gives 5 to 22 lb for this arm while its marketing page says up to 15.5 lb, so if your screen is near the top of that range tell us the model and we will check it against the arm before you order. If your screen has no VESA holes, a VESA adapter plate is usually available for it — send us the model on 02 9640 0642 and we will check before you order.
The M2.1 is the everyday arm for a single office monitor. The M8.1 is the heavy-duty one: Humanscale's table gives it 9 to 50 lb against the M2.1's 5 to 22 lb, a taller height range and a 60-inch maximum screen width, and it is the one that takes a crossbar for two screens. If you run a large or very heavy display, or you want two screens on one post, go to the M8.1.
Ten minutes with the supplied hex key for one arm. The clamp or grommet fitting goes on the desk first, the post drops in, the arm slides on, then the screen clips to the VESA plate. The only step worth doing carefully is setting the spring tension to the screen's weight before you let go of it — the instructions cover it and the specifications above list the adjustment.
The spring tension is set for the weight of your screen. If the arm rises on its own the tension is too high; if it sags it is too low. Turn the adjuster in the direction marked until the screen stays wherever you put it. It is a normal setup step, not a fault, and it needs redoing whenever you change screens.
