Five Decades of Norwegian Design Mastery
The HÅG Tribute was born from a 40-year collaboration between HÅG and Norwegian designer Svein Asbjørnsen of sapDesign. An outdoor enthusiast with a deep reverence for the natural world, Svein has spent his career studying how the human body interacts with furniture.
His journey began in Sykkylven on Sunnmøre, where his father ran a furniture factory. After studying at the Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole in Oslo, Svein went on to co-found Møre Designteam in 1970, winning multiple Nordic design competitions and even developing the original Stressless concept for Ekornes.
When he turned his attention to HÅG's executive range, his ambition was singular: to create the world's most uncompromisingly comfortable executive chair. The Tribute is the culmination of that pursuit.

"I am passionate about how we sit and how it affects us over time."
— Svein Asbjørnsen, sapDesign
One Technician. One Chair. No Shortcuts.
Each HÅG Tribute is manufactured with absolute precision and lovingly crafted by a single skilled technician at the HÅG factory in Røros, Norway. This is not an assembly line. One person takes ownership of your chair from the first component to the final quality check.
Røros is a UNESCO World Heritage town, a historic mining settlement with a magical atmosphere in the Norwegian highlands. HÅG has been part of this community since 1957, drawing on generations of craftsmanship and a workforce that takes immense pride in what they build.
The result is a chair that feels different the moment you sit in it. Every joint, every stitch, every adjustment mechanism assembled with the care that only comes from a single pair of hands seeing the work through from start to finish.
Handcrafted in the Norwegian Highlands

Movement, Even in the Boardroom
The human body is not designed to sit still. HÅG's signature in Balance® technology brings a smooth, continuous tilt function to the Tribute that supports your body's natural desire to shift and move, even during long meetings or focused work sessions.
The pioneering upper back and headrest respond intuitively when you recline, providing ideal support without requiring manual adjustment. The S-curved back follows the body's natural curvature, reducing tension in the upper back, shoulders and neck.
Combined with fully integrated lumbar support (adjustable via a sophisticated wheel), TiltDown™ armrests that allow you to sit close to your desk, and adjustable seat height and depth, the Tribute adapts to you rather than demanding you adapt to it.
Why Choose the HÅG Tribute?
Leather, Wool, and Polished Aluminium
The Tribute is available in a curated selection of premium upholstery options. Choose from semi-aniline Elmosoft leather (soft, pliable, with visible natural character marks that speak to authenticity), 85% New Zealand wool fabrics like Select and Capture, or 100% premium worsted wool in Focus and Focus Melange.
The base and frame come in matt black aluminium as standard, with an optional polished aluminium upgrade that transforms the footbase, lift cover, armrests, lumbar wheel, headrest stem, and upper and lower back bars into gleaming polished metal. Leather-topped armrests are standard on all models.
Every material has been chosen for longevity. These are not fast-fashion finishes. They are surfaces that develop character over years of use, ageing gracefully alongside the person who sits in them.
A Showpiece in Any Room
The Tribute commands attention in executive offices, boardrooms, and home studies.

Frequently Asked Questions
The HÅG Tribute is available in premium leather (full-grain, semi-aniline) and high-quality wool fabrics from Kvadrat and Gabriel. The standard model comes in black leather with a black aluminium base. A polished aluminium base upgrade is also available. Contact Chair Dinkum for the full range of fabric and leather swatches.
Both. The Tribute uses HÅG's in Balance® tilt mechanism, the same core technology found across their ergonomic range. This provides continuous movement support between upright and reclined positions. The integrated lumbar support, adjustable seat depth, and TiltDown armrests are all genuine ergonomic features designed for extended sitting. The premium materials and handcrafted construction add luxury, but the ergonomic foundation is serious.
The Tribute sits alongside chairs like the Vitra Grand Executive and Humanscale Freedom Headrest in terms of price. Where it differs is the combination of genuine ergonomic engineering (in Balance tilt, adjustable lumbar, seat depth adjustment) with handcrafted Norwegian construction. Most executive chairs at this level prioritise appearance over movement. The Tribute delivers both.

The polished aluminium upgrade replaces the standard black-painted aluminium base and armrest structure with mirror-polished aluminium. This includes the five-star base, armrest supports, and visible structural elements. It adds a more refined, boardroom-appropriate finish to the chair.
